OSG Glidein Factory Instructions

The UCSD team is operating a glideinWMS glidein factory for OSG.This page provides documentation for VOs wanting to use it.

Who can use the OSG glidein factory?

The OSG glidein factory at UCSD is open to all OSG VOs. An initial registration process is however needed.

Contact information

The OSG glidein factory at UCSD is operated by a group of people, so please use the following mailing list for all operations comunication:
osg-gfactory-support@physics.ucsd.edu

For glideinWMS software related problems, please use their own mailing list:
glideinwms-support@fnal.gov

Using the OSG glidein factory

The OSG glidein factory at UCSD provides the Grid facing service of a glideinWMS system. Anybody wanting to use it still needs to provide the other half; a Condor schedd, a Condor collector and a VO frontend.

In order to use the OSG glidein factory, the VO frontend will need access to two proxies:

  • a proxy used to authenticate to the glidein factory (i.e. the frontend proxy)
  • a proxy to submit the glideins to the Grid sites (i.e. the glidein proxy)

The frontend proxy identity has to be registered with the OSG glidein factory; only frontends with known proxies will be served. The proxy identity can be obtained with either openssl or grid-proxy-info. Here is an example:

frontend@glidein-frontend ~$ grid-proxy-info -file .globus/x509_service_proxy | head -3
subject : /DC=org/DC=doegrids/OU=Services/CN=glidein-frontend.t2.ucsd.edu/CN=1751791764
issuer : /DC=org/DC=doegrids/OU=Services/CN=glidein-frontend.t2.ucsd.edu
identity : /DC=org/DC=doegrids/OU=Services/CN=glidein-frontend.t2.ucsd.edu

The proxy frontend identify (e.g. "/DC=org/DC=doegrids/OU=Services/CN=glidein-frontend.t2.ucsd.edu") has to be sent to the factory operators, together with the symbolic name of the user community (for example: "CMS"). The factory operators will configure the glidein factory to accept requests using such a proxy and will contact you with the remaining information you will need to properly configure the VO frontend.

If you need further support in the installation process, please contact the glideinWMS team; they offer installation support on a best effort basis.

Once in operation

The OSG glidein factory will submit glideins to the sites specified by the VO. How these sites are selected will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.

Service guarantees

The glidein factory is operated 24x7, but support is provided during business hours only.

For more details, please consult the official SLA.
